Mary Martin

Mary Virginia Martin (December 1, 1913 – November 3, 1990) was an American Tony Award-winning star of stage, film and screen. She received the Donaldson Award and the New York Film Critics Circle Award in 1943 for "One Touch of Venus". In 1955 she received a Tony for "Peter Pan", in 1956 she received an Emmy for appearing in the same role on television. She also received Tony Awards for "South Pacific" and "The Sound of Music". She was honored for her career achievements by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., in 1989. She died, aged 76, from colorectal cancer at her home in Rancho Mirage, California in 1990.
